Rick Bailey

 Rick Bailey was born in Montreal and spent his early years in Ontario. After graduating as a Chemical Engineer he acquired an MBA and worked in the oil industry in Ontario and Alberta for 20 years. After moving to the Victoria area in 1992 he concentrated his work activities on environmental consulting services and innovative energy efficiency projects.

Throughout his adult years Rick has enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Typical projects varied from simple spice racks and flat work for around the house to more complex inlaid chess sets and doll houses for his grandchildren. Since retiring from active employment he has focused on woodturning. Working mostly in locally grown woods such as maple, arbutus, oak and locust he has made a wide range of bowls, lidded boxes, yarn bowls for knitters, urns and smaller objects such as bottle stoppers. One particular focus has been on segmented work where he combines small pieces of different woods into interesting and varied patterns.

Rick lives and works in North Saanich. B.C.
